It greatly reduces the distance.

To my knowledge none of the sentient races have mastered teleportation.
[ and Luke's projection trick absolutely
doesn't
count. ]
Not for lack of trying.
There's little point in dwelling on it. I'm not there right now and am unlikely to be returning any time soon.
