[The video comes on to show a small group of people. Alex is in front, obviously doing the filming, but behind him are two women - Naomi Nagata and Bobbie Draper - and one man - Amos Burton. You may have met some of them. A little behind them stands Prax Meng, who is looking very awkward, and Joe Miller, who is visibly rolling his eyes.]
Hey there cowboys and cowgirls. [ Alex’s characteristic texan drawl is easy and smooth, and despite the fact that there’s currently no gravity, he doesn’t sound worried.] Hope ya’ll had your magboots on.
Looks like somethin’ in the station’s centrifugal system is jammed up. That’ll be why ya’ll found your breakfast start floatin’ this mornin’. Ya ain’t gonna die, so no panickin’, but we’re gonna need all hands on deck to sort this one out. Now me and my crew here have a lot of experience with space-walk maintenance, but this is a big station. Ain’t no way we can do this by ourselves. But we wanna make sure anyone that’s venturin’ outside isn’t gonna get themselves hurt.
[He raises a hand.] Now my name’s Alex, and these here are Naomi, Bobbie and Amos. [He points to each of them in turn.] We can check over your gear and make sure it ain’t gonna start leakin’ oh-two on ya while you’re out there. We’ll be headin’ out ourselves, but at least one of us’ll be by an airlock at all times.
If anyone is havin’ problems with the weightless side of things - you just give one of us a shout and we’ll try t’ get you set up. Basic rules are - you’re gonna keep goin’ in any direction you are propelled in. Easiest thing is to just use your magboots to get around, but if you’ve gone and gotten yourself caught without ‘em, make sure you stay within arm’s reach of a wall or bolted-down-object at all times, else you’re gonna find yourself floatin’ uselessly with no way of gettin’ t’ anything.
[He pauses, looking back at the group.]
That about it? [ He waits a couple seconds, but no one adds anything, so he looks back in the camera. ]
Alright. Let’s get this show on the road.
[ The feed winks out. ]
[[OOC: Each of the Roci crew will have top levels in the event post to help people with their suits, so feel free to hit them up there! I will also link them here for easy access. Naomi || Bobbie || Amos || Alex ]]

[ what was his name again? right right, alex. he remembered that. ]
Alex.
[ see. got it right on the second try. ]
The bar's shit right now. Alcohol everywhere.
[ and it hadn't even been his fault. ]
Shouldn't I just stay in there and supervise, make sure no one slips and falls and sues?
[ worth a shot, right? ]
no subject
Think they're that likely to trip and fall in zero gee, hoss? Need a bit of gravity for that.
Though you've got a point, whether you know you're makin' it or not - those bottles are gonna need to be stowed, or they'll be deadly when we get the gravity back on.
no subject
You think someone's gonna be stupid enough to stand under bottles?
[ look, there was stupid and then there was just moronic. ]
Or you more worried about the broken glass hurting people's feet.
[ that's what those handy dandy boots were for, right? ]
Though, I can see your point of collecting them so we don't end up without alcohol entirely. That'd be a devastating situation for everyone.
no subject
[ So hey, Kovacs! You got yourself a job! ]
We should be stowin' everythin' we can.
But yeah. Between that and the kids drinkin' half of it, we gotta do what we can to protect the stash. [ An amused look. ]
no subject
I'll see what I can do.
[ no promises, space cop. ]
This whole thing gonna a problem if your mystical, magical team of heroes can't get things working again?
[ yeah, it was all on you guys, now. remember, he had a job and it didn't involve space walks and space rocks and saving the world. not today. ]
no subject
Your body starts to deteriorate - bone density drops, muscle mass - it ain't a good time for anyone.
Not to mention, we don't know what life support systems on this station are set up to run with. Could be they run at max efficiency only with the spin in effect. Point is, I'd rather just avoid that scenario entirely, if we can get away with it.
no subject
Wow, that sounds like a good time
[ who didn't want to their muscles to shrink in size right in front of their eyes? ]
Well, it might surprise you to hear that I am not looking to die right now.
[ even if that sort of death meant his stack would be intact in the hopes that someone found him. but what the fuck were the chances of that? ]
So, your and your merry band of space pirates should fix that shit.
no subject
[ An amused look crosses his face. ]
Cops to pirates, huh? If we were pirates, we'd'a spaced the whole lot of ya already. [ He says it with a smile warm enough to crinkle his eyes. ]
Unless you proved yourself useful, anyway.
no subject
[ he'd have tried to fight and kill anyone who tried. he wasn't going anywhere without that fucking pardon. ]
Life support's what I'm expecting to fuck off next.
[ it wasn't like there was someone overseeing this shithole. how were they gonna know when there was a problem until there was a problem? ]
no subject
[ He'a not the one who'd be wrestling you, partner.
At the second comment, however, the humour disappears from his expression. ]
... Yeah. Ain't gonna lie, I'm worried about the same damn thing. I'd feel a hell of a lot better if I had access to even just a few systems read outs. But we're makin' headway on that, too. Our plant guy Prax is workin' on bolsterin' the air recyclin' systems with his plants, and they help with a bit of the water treatment, too. But it ain't a permanent fix. Station like this, there's always losses. And it don't look like we're gettin' any fresh supplies, any time soon.
no subject
[ don't get him wrong, they were both nicely sized and nice to look at but they weren't hulking brutes with fragged personalities and access to vr torture rooms. he could deal with a coupla space pirates. ]
I really hope they're --
[ but who the fuck were 'they'? no one fucking knew. ]
-- not expecting us to save the world because we haven't got jack shit but ourselves to do that with.
[ it was the lack of supplies and direction that made him think this was just a death sentence for all of them. ]
no subject
He'd Amos in action. He wouldn't bet against him in a fight against anyone. Except maybe Bobbie. Basically: he had faith in his crew. ]
Didn't anyone ever tell you it ain't all about size?
[ At the last sentence he just sort of let out a breath. ]
Might need to know whatever world they're even tryin' to save. Cause it don't look like it's this one.
no subject
[ quell had made sure of that. his last sleeve hadn't been this size and he'd made it work. he'd made it work very, very well. he'd just gotten lucky with this sleeve.
fucking ortega. ]
Huh. Hadn't even thought of that.
[ if he's honest, kovacs hadn't really looked too closely at the planet below. it was there and it was spinning and it was somewhere that wasn't here so he'd just assumed. ]
You think that planet below us has any use?
no subject
But it also ain't got any lights on, when she turns away from the sun. So I doubt anyone's home.
no subject
[ at least there was some fucking space down there. ]
I could live without lights.
[ if the worst thing they had to deal with was darkness, then fucking sign him the hell up. ]
My smile will brighten up the night for anyone.
no subject
I might do alright. Same with Bobbie. Amos'd be fine. But Naomi, Miller and Prax? A planet that size would crush 'em. They ain't never been down a gravity well that steep.
Hell, neither have I, but at least we trained in one gee in MCRN.
There's probably plenty useful, down there, and the Earther's would be alright - assumin' the atmosphere was livable. But I ain't gonna leave my crew up here.
no subject
who the hell did that anymore especially after living in a shitty place like it sounded he had at one point or another? ]
You're all heart, Space Cop.
[ made up for the heart he didn't have. ]
When I end up down on that fucking planet --
[ because he was going to make it happen, no matter what. ]
I'm gonna wave to Miller and make sure I bring him some fucking mud.
no subject
So you've met our resident detective, but you're still callin' me Cop? [ He sounds more amused than annoyed, though. ]
Didn't know you two were friends.
no subject
[ they kind of were. shut up. it was a weird relationship. ]
I haven't figured out what I'm going to call him yet.
[ and since space cop was already taken...]
Maybe something to do with that fucking hat.
no subject
Try calling him beratna, sometime. [ You're welcome, Miller. ]
You know what's really strange about that hat? I ain't never seen it, before comin' here. But it suits him, I guess.
no subject
[ well, now that was going to happen the next time he saw you, miller. it might happen during the rest of their time stuck together on this beautiful vacation. ]
Though you knew the guy back home? Had he dumped the hat by the time you met him?
no subject
I did, yeah. Met him on Eros. [ Then had been forced to leave him on Eros. ]
But I never saw him with a hat. They ain't exactly common, in the belt - or even on Mars, if I'm honest.
no subject
#thumbsup]
It's a dumb hat.
[ but it didn't look terrible on miller. don't expect to hear kovacs say that out loud. ]
no subject
'Specially out somewhere like here. What's he even gonna use it for? Hell if I know.
no subject
[ well, it did cover up that interesting haircut of his so it might have had some use. ]
Beat the shit out of me if you ever catch me wearing something like that.
