hey, did that pet directory ever get made? there are at least four hamsters running around the observation deck. so far they're staying kind of close to me, but if they're yours, please come get them.

[Briefly, a video feed turns on. There sure are three hamsters sitting in front of Hajime, almost posing for the camera. The camera pans to show Hajime's incredulous, perpetually tired face, showing one hamster asleep on his shoulder.]

Whoa-! Wait, wait!!

[The camera pans back quickly to the three hamsters, except now they're all running for him. He lets out a yelp and the video feed turns off.]

Oh my god. Where are all these animals coming from?!

that's my question! it's crazy, right? weird enough that people are waking up here, but animals, too?

maybe we'll get lucky and end up with some fish or cows or something. you know, just start a whole farm.

Yeah, "lucky". Lucky until the air runs out and we all need to find a space suit for four hamsters, a bunch of cats, and three million dogs.

This is completely fucking mad.

and here i thought someone on this station could make a spacesuit for ants

more importantly, though, since you bring it up... do we even have enough spacesuits for everyone on board?

A space suit for ants??? I literally have no idea if you're joking or not.

And I don't know, I haven't counted. Maybe someone should do that... sooner rather than later...

no, that was a joke. don't worry.

if there aren't enough space suits, maybe we'll need to come up with something else. a way to make sure that even if something happens, we'll still have enough air until things can get fixed. people... really don't live long without oxygen, after all.

I guess we can shut down sections of the station and make sure at least SOME people have whatever air is left to them... but it would probably be best if everyone has their own suits, right? Just imagine the fighting that would go down if there are only 50 suits for 100 people...

And animals. God. However many animals we now have, I don't know.

[Hajime recoils physically at the thought, and fires back a rapid,]

we need to make sure there's enough spacesuits. if we can work with what we have, maybe we can figure out how to make more. there have to be supplies we can rig up somehow, right? i can't accept something where we'd have to pick who lives and who dies

No, no of course not. That would be awful.

Do we even know how many people are on board? Has anyone done a head count? I know most of us were at that meeting but we've had a few people arrive since then...

we could try to make a weekly tally based off how many rooms there are...

maybe the safest thing would be to make sure there's at least one spacesuit per room? more for the bigger rooms, obviously.

Huh. That's not a bad idea, actually. There are a couple of people on board who don't need them but I don't know how many exactly... at least two of us, I think.

[Of course there are people who don't need spacesuits...]

i'll try to do some digging around the station and see what i can find. i'd want to at least make sure there's an even number of them on each deck. otherwise we could end up with a mad dash toward the suits if something does go wrong

Some of us have found about 15 suits near deck 2, where we're setting up an airlock. But I don't think that's enough for all of us...

no way that's enough. there have to be at least fifty of us, probably more.

a spacesuit has to have... what, a heater and an oxygen tank? at least for inside the station, i mean. in case life support goes out. i hope we don't ever need to have enough for everybody to have to crawl around on the outside. if it's inside, do you think it would have to be vacuum-sealed, too? like, if the walls get breached to space, don't people get sucked out immediately? there's no time to get a spacesuit in that case

Yeah, maybe some people would get sucked out immediately. And hopefully we'd also be able to shut some of the doors to keep it contained. But it's the kind of thing that you don't want to leave up to 'hopefully' and 'maybe' I guess. It would be good to know that at least everyone has one suit each...

I don't know. I'm not really an expert. It's just something that's been hanging around in the back of my mind... do you know what I mean?

yeah, i've been thinking about it, too. mostly i'm just thinking... even if we can't figure out how to vacuum seal stuff, maybe there's a way we can put together something with an oxygen mask and portable heater. until we can figure out how to make real spacesuits.

doing something has got to be better than doing nothing, right? that's how we turn "hopefully" into "probably."

Do you know anyone who might be able to make something like that? I guess the space gang (you know who I mean? Alex, Amos, etc) might know a thing or two about it...

idk i haven't really talked to them yet, but i can try reaching out next time i see them

amos is the guy who showed up with a shotgun at the town meeting though, right?

anyway, i'll see if there's anything we can do for spacesuits. brainstorming like this together is better than us each trying to go at it alone
