hey, did that pet directory ever get made? there are at least four hamsters running around the observation deck. so far they're staying kind of close to me, but if they're yours, please come get them.

[Briefly, a video feed turns on. There sure are three hamsters sitting in front of Hajime, almost posing for the camera. The camera pans to show Hajime's incredulous, perpetually tired face, showing one hamster asleep on his shoulder.]

Whoa-! Wait, wait!!

[The camera pans back quickly to the three hamsters, except now they're all running for him. He lets out a yelp and the video feed turns off.]

No, no of course not. That would be awful.

Do we even know how many people are on board? Has anyone done a head count? I know most of us were at that meeting but we've had a few people arrive since then...

we could try to make a weekly tally based off how many rooms there are...

maybe the safest thing would be to make sure there's at least one spacesuit per room? more for the bigger rooms, obviously.

Huh. That's not a bad idea, actually. There are a couple of people on board who don't need them but I don't know how many exactly... at least two of us, I think.

i'll try to do some digging around the station and see what i can find. i'd want to at least make sure there's an even number of them on each deck. otherwise we could end up with a mad dash toward the suits if something does go wrong

Some of us have found about 15 suits near deck 2, where we're setting up an airlock. But I don't think that's enough for all of us...

no way that's enough. there have to be at least fifty of us, probably more.

a spacesuit has to have... what, a heater and an oxygen tank? at least for inside the station, i mean. in case life support goes out. i hope we don't ever need to have enough for everybody to have to crawl around on the outside. if it's inside, do you think it would have to be vacuum-sealed, too? like, if the walls get breached to space, don't people get sucked out immediately? there's no time to get a spacesuit in that case

Yeah, maybe some people would get sucked out immediately. And hopefully we'd also be able to shut some of the doors to keep it contained. But it's the kind of thing that you don't want to leave up to 'hopefully' and 'maybe' I guess. It would be good to know that at least everyone has one suit each...

I don't know. I'm not really an expert. It's just something that's been hanging around in the back of my mind... do you know what I mean?

yeah, i've been thinking about it, too. mostly i'm just thinking... even if we can't figure out how to vacuum seal stuff, maybe there's a way we can put together something with an oxygen mask and portable heater. until we can figure out how to make real spacesuits.

doing something has got to be better than doing nothing, right? that's how we turn "hopefully" into "probably."
