[ Haruto accepts the glass and plate with a mumbled thanks, setting the glass on the floor and the plate on his lap. It's warm, at least, which is a pleasant sensation, after sitting on the cold metal floor of the hallway for hours. ]

I'm fine. Hungry. A little embarrassed. [ Ashamed, and terrified. But Miller's reaction-- or rather, non-reaction-- had him hopeful.

He picks up a fork, poking and prodding at the lasagna, though he's too nervousness to just start eating right away. He'd better clear the air first. ]


The people I was afraid would come here... They're called Project Integration. They were a group of scientists, engineers, programmers, and doctors, looking for new ways to combine biology and technology. And I was their crowning achievement.

[ He could probably stop there and let that part sink in for Alex, but now that he's started, it's easier to just keep going. ]

They gave me the name Kilroy, after the lead programmer. They kept me in a lab, teaching me things and studying my development. Eventually, I realized they would never let me be free, so I... Ran away. I chose a new name for myself, and lived in hiding in Tokyo. I was working as many jobs as I could get, trying to save up money to move away. But. Instead, I woke up here.
