Hey, ya'll.
[ Hi Reverie Fam, it's your resident faux texan Martian, here, his warm drawl caressing your ears. For those of you that have them and can still hear out of them, anyway. ]
So I've been thinkin'.
We've been gettin' access to some new areas, but I'll be honest and say that there's on in particular I've been most interested in gettin' in, but we might need a team to do it like we did for the door to Operations. We need to get into the Hangar Bay. We know there is one - the map up in operations made that clear, and I'm pretty sure I even know the exact door we need to get in. We just need to get in it.
So I thought--
[ He cuts off sharply with an ow!, and then there's a clattering noise as the communicator hits the floor. Silence for a couple seconds, and then in a breathless whisper that sounds like it's coming from several feet away: ]
Holy shit, where did these come from? [ There's another rustling and clattering and the next time his voice is audible, it's from much closer to the mic. ]
Folks, I think we've got a ride.
I think we've got two rides, and--Wait, what? Where the hell'd they go??
[The audio disconnects.]

Hey.
[ He sounds a little awkward as he steps over. ]
This alright? It's as close to lasagna as I can ever get it.
action!
It'll be fine. I wouldn't know anyway, I've never had real lasagna.

[ His eyes keep sliding to the cable and away again, as if he knows he shouldn't be looking at it. But he crouches down next to Haruto, holding out the plate and glass before taking a seat next to him. ]
... You alright?

I'm fine. Hungry. A little embarrassed. [ Ashamed, and terrified. But Miller's reaction-- or rather, non-reaction-- had him hopeful.
He picks up a fork, poking and prodding at the lasagna, though he's too nervousness to just start eating right away. He'd better clear the air first. ]
The people I was afraid would come here... They're called Project Integration. They were a group of scientists, engineers, programmers, and doctors, looking for new ways to combine biology and technology. And I was their crowning achievement.
[ He could probably stop there and let that part sink in for Alex, but now that he's started, it's easier to just keep going. ]
They gave me the name Kilroy, after the lead programmer. They kept me in a lab, teaching me things and studying my development. Eventually, I realized they would never let me be free, so I... Ran away. I chose a new name for myself, and lived in hiding in Tokyo. I was working as many jobs as I could get, trying to save up money to move away. But. Instead, I woke up here.

But even before coming here, he'd learned the hard way that some people would do anything, to cement their own legacy. To pursue 'technological advancement'.
He'd watched 100,000 Belters sacrificed on that particular altar.
So he wished it sounded insane, but it didn't.
Gently, he asked: ]
So what's your real name, then?
[ Not Hideki. Not Kilroy. His real name. ]

Haruto. Saitou Haruto.
[ He could go into the reasoning behind choosing that particular name-- that it's basically the Japanese equivalent of John Smith, making it near impossible to search-- but instead he just lets it speak for itself. ]

I appreciate your trust in tellin' me all this, but - you know you don't owe it to me, right?

[ He looks away for a moment, sighing softly, but then he looks back to Alex and there's a fortitude in his eyes that wasn't there previously. ]
No. Maybe not. But it's better to be honest, between friends. And I consider you a friend.
[ He considers Alex to be more than that. A confidant. A protector. Someone reliable Haruto can turn to for help. But friend will do. ]
no subject
Well, I appreciate that. [ His eyes soften a little. ]
Breaks my heart a bit to hear what happened, but - at least you ain't back with 'em. We'll get you home to your Earth - your Tokyo - somehow. Or wherever else you wanna go.

[ He frowns, choosing his words carefully. This is something he's been thinking about ever since he came to the conclusion that his kidnapping was not the work of Project Integration. ]
I don't want to stay here. There's obviously something wrong with the station. But if we're able to find a way to get somewhere better, somewhere safer... Or back to some people's home universes, even if they're not mine...
[ He shrugs, hoping Alex will understand why he doesn't want to go home. ]
The farther I can get from Project Integration, the better.

And you'd be pretty damn far from your Project Integration, I can tell you that much.

How do you think I would do on Mars?
no subject
If you'da asked me a year ago, I woulda said very well. But I ain't sure that - Mars has been gettin' up to some stuff that I don't rightly think is good for anyone. Better to stay out in the Belt, where we are. Were. You know what I mean.
[ There's no possible way that Haruto could know, just how painful this was to say. How painful it was to know.
But Mars had betrayed Bobbie - betrayed it's own Marines - helped develop a protomolecule hybrid...
All his loyalty and all his patriotism still couldn't have him rightly tell Haruto that he'd be safe. Not there.
The Belt, though. The belt he'd have a fairer shot. ]
And Earth you'd be fine on, though I ain't never been so I can't say all that much about it.
no subject
[ He'd ask what Alex's version of Earth is like, but since Alex has never been, Haruto figures he's the wrong person to ask. Maybe he'll ask Holden, some other time. ]

Ganymede probably looked pretty damn nice, before the mirror's fell. Titan's pretty far out, but there's a lot of trade that goes through there, so they got some decent livin'.
The Belt's a wide, wide place. Tycho station is the closest thing we've got to a home port, in it, but mostly we just live on the ship, when we can.

It all sounds so strange to me. Traveling the solar system. So futuristic, even though we're from roughly the same year.
