In a situation where there is no one else with a title, having a title declares to people that you are more important than they are. It doesn't matter what your intent is.

And that aside, you can't accuse others of taking it wrongly if it's how such a thing comes off to them. If they're telling you that they perceive your actions as a threat, then they are feeling threatened. You asked if anyone had reasonable objections — I, and many others, are telling you that we feel threatened by your decision. Is that not good enough, to someone who claims to want us to feel safe?
