in space, no one can hear you struggle to open doors (un: aqua)

[ What up Reverie Terminal, it's your glowy superdad back on the network again. Apollo is looking pensive today and not quite his usual sunny self. Next to him is someone who's making his first public appearance: Kaldur'ahm faces the camera, gills at his neck clearly visible, a reserved smile on his face. He gives a nod. ]

As you all know, several areas of the station remain inaccessible to us. I believe several people have been talking about ways to open them or attempting to do so already. Brute force may be a means to gain access to a central command deck or something similar. If enough of us work together, especially those of us stronger or superpowered, we may be able to get through.

[ Here, he glances at Apollo, who adds after a beat: ]

Dirk raised a good point: what if those doors have been locked off for a good reason? What if there's something on the other side that needs to be locked away like, I don't know, a pathogen? Or whatever it is that's wiped out the original station crew?

[ Apollo lifts a hand, as if to stem an imaginary silent protest: ]

I'm not saying we shouldn't still give it a go, because after that video Henryk received it's been made pretty clear to us that we need to get off this ship as soon as possible. But it's something we should maybe be prepared for.

So what we're asking is whether or not there's anyone out there who's good at forcefields? Or might have some insight in to how we should tackle this? Just in case we open a door and, uh. Regret it.

[ Apollo frowns a little, determination replacing the pensive expression from before. ]

So there you have it. I know Amos has some good ideas about creating an airlock in case we open a door to an unpressurised deck. But has anyone else got any ideas? [ to which Kaldur adds: ] We would welcome your thoughts and input.

[ Erik frowns in thought, and concern, as he watches the video. There seems to be something more than the issue of the doors weighing on Apollo, but this is hardly the time to bring that up.

The issue here is to determine how to get himself involved in this without revealing what would make him best suited to it. First, because if there is an emergency, he's the best suited on the station to save all of them as quickly as possible. Second, because he really wants to know what's behind those damned doors. ]

I'd like to accompany the party on this attempt, if I may. I have the most metalwork expertise, if that ends up being necessary. And I'm good at worksite safety.

[ A little too good, in the end. ]

[ gdi erik just come clean already ]

Worksite safety. Are you bringing hard hats and high vis jackets?

[ At this point he's realized that he probably should but wow he's painted himself into an awkward corner whoops ]

I would if we had them. As it is, I can do my best to make sure nobody's in a position that puts them in avoidable danger.

Hard hats or not, we'd be glad to have your help. Even better if we don't have to use it.

Often just following protocol is what ensures you don't need it. It forces you to take your time and pay attention to details. We don't really have established protocol for this, but I can make sure we all take turns and the like.

Yes, I think that's going to be important. We know how weak and exhausted tackling the doors will make us, we need to make sure we swap in and out quickly and carefully. Especially if most of us are in space suits. It could get dangerous if people start trying to get TOO heroic...

Heroism is overrated. And frequently onanistic.

[ If Apollo had a drink right now he would be spitting it ]

Onanistic? Really?

[personal profile] magneticfields 2018-05-30 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Most of the time it's better to let people solve their own problems. Or let nature take its course.

[ oh, huh. More than just a wank joke, okay. ]

"Let nature take its course" sounds like a terrible idea. Especially in space.

You're not going back far enough. If the people responsible hadn't done whatever it was that they did to save their world, and ultimately doom it in the process, we wouldn't be here now.

Don't get me wrong, this is a bad situation we're in and I want to get us all out of here ASAP. But I can't blame them for trying to save their entire world. Are you saying you'd sit back and let your own world come to an end, without fighting to save it, just to 'let nature take its course'?
magneticfields: (intense)

[personal profile] magneticfields 2018-05-31 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing lasts forever. Usually "saving the world" means "saving humanity", when it may be in the world's best interest to let that period of history end.
solarcharged: (70)

[personal profile] solarcharged 2018-05-31 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? If you had a chance to try and save your world would you honestly sit back and say 'oh well, nothing lasts forever!'?

Fuck the course of nature, Henryk. I don't blame them for going down swinging. I would fight it too.

When the alternative is enslaving others and trapping them in dangerous, inhumane conditions like this? Yes. Absolutely.

I'm not happy we've been dragged in to this position either. There are kids on board. That's bad. But maybe they had no idea that was the alternative. We just don't know!

I've been trying to pin all kinds of crazy theories on what's happened and what this station is, but I'm starting to realise that's just going to drive us mad. We have no idea what's gone wrong here. But I don't blame them for wanting to save their world. I'd have done the same.

[personal profile] magneticfields 2018-06-08 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Either they did this exact thing intentionally or they were so spectacularly incompetent that they accidentally kidnapped and enslaved us. I don't see how either absolves them of responsibility for their actions.

I don't care what their excuses were. If I encounter any of them I will have revenge for what they've done.
solarcharged: (13)

[personal profile] solarcharged 2018-06-09 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
I don't suppose you fancy finding out what actually happened first? Before you go full 'I will have my revenge' mode?
magneticfields: (helmet close)

[personal profile] magneticfields 2018-06-10 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
I already know what they've done to us. I'm not interested in hearing excuses for their crimes.

To be honest, I was more interested in finding out if there was a way to reverse it.

I'll wait until after they explain it, then.
