Since it seems many of us are coming close to preparing to attempt to break down at least one of the locked doors, I find it necessary to prepare myself further and have the strength necessary to help.
As stated before, I am a dhampir. That is to say, I am half-vampire by my father. I look for any who bleed to volunteer and allow me to drink from you. The more that I have, the stronger that I will be.
With that request in place, I ask another: I want to know if anyone here has been properly ordained. I am in need of holy water.

[But the reason why Rhea'li needed them quickly becomes clear. Though Alucard does not know precisely the specifics of the incantations he writes, he knows enough.]
You're a sorcerer?

Of sorts. On Eorzea, I would be called a summoner or arcanist.

An arcanist is a practitioner of Arcanima, magic manifested through the manipulation of aether through arcane geometries and formulas.
[He holds up the completed page. It's full of circles and lines and squares and such. Yes, it's maths magic. Pulling the rag from his neck and setting it down on the table, he digs into his pocket for a spell he wrote earlier.]
Allow me to demonstrate.
[Pressing his fingers to the page, he channels his aether through the written spell. A glow surrounds him, perfect circles bisected with ornamental lines phasing into reality. But just as quickly, they vanish and an emerald, mousy creature with a large fluffy tail pops into existence. It's about the size of a cat and it glows brightly, sparkling.]

Then he sees the creature, and Alucard looks immensely curious.]
Is that a familiar?

This is a Carbuncle, a created creature. A novice arcanist may have difficulties controlling it. There are many a tale of Carbuncles causing mischief without their master's command.
[Without a word, he commands the Carbuncle to jump up on the table. It obeys, promptly sitting down once on the table. Obviously he is no novice.]
'Tis but a basic spell taught to all arcanists. There are other methods of magic, but this is my chosen.

[He pauses, then holds out his hand.]
May I touch Carbuncle?
no subject
The Carbuncle itself stays still and will allow Alucard to touch it without complaint. It might feel a little like petting warm and solid light; while it does look a little like a rabbit, it's more like a solid creature of energy than a fuzzy animal.]
So a familiar is one of mutual choosing?
no subject
Correct. It is a bond between a person and another creature. Enchanted sentient items, imps, the fae, and so on. There are many possible beings. Few as cognitive as us, but there are some.

Well, time to start on spell number two... The first had been yet another summon, in the event they require strength. The second... Now that he thinks about it, Matoya had familiars of her own, did she not?]
I met an incredible mage who gave life to the inanimate and enchanted sentience to animals.
[Though one had been very, very concerned about his sentience being taken away as a result of his general incompetence. He'd felt sorry for the creature.]
I'm afraid my magic is very simple in comparison.
[Powerful, yes, but she is a researcher, one who pulls magic in new and interesting ways. One who could solve problems that cannot be solved through brute force.
