001 ⇉ video (un: envoy)
[ the communicator that he'd been given was close enough to the oni that it doesn't take kovacs very long to figure it out. the tech is still a little behind what he's used to but it does the job.
when the video flickers to life, kovacs is wearing his default expression: boredom with a side of 'i hate everyone'. what he's really feeling is the almost overwhelming need for a fucking cigarette. but, those, like many other things, appeared to not exist on this station. booze only went so far. ]
Anyone have any drugs?
[ his lips draw into a thin smirk and he snickers. while he wouldn't necessarily say no to some good reaper, he's rather not spend any time in some drug induced fog while he's stuck on a station that he doesn't know. he's already run into someone who'd talked about eating him (nevermind that kovacs had brought that up) and he'd rather not wake up with a kidney missing. ]
Now that I've got your attention, anyone have a cigarette or is this place lacking in good vices as well as everything else? Haven't seen any dolls running around here either. More's the pity.
[ there was a fair amount of mystery surrounding the locked doors and corridors that piqued kovacs curiosity but that was about the only saving grace of this place. besides, he didn't have any real motivation to figure things out since he wasn't getting paid. ]
Pretty sure the fact that I was going to have to go cold turkey off something wasn't in the brochure for this place. But, neither was the fact that I can't fucking leave so I guess I was just asking for too much.
[ he hates being stuck. it's like being on ice except he's fucking aware. if he wants to stay in one place for any amount of time, he will make that choice. having it taken away from him grates. it pisses him off. ]
So, any of you Meths? Just trying to figure out how who I should cozy up to. I miss having friends, you see.
[ the laugh that follows the statement is one of sarcasm. he definitely wants to know but not for any friendly reason. kovacs figures that no one's going to know what he means but, if they answer, he can probably judge them well enough to decide on his own. ]
I really hope we're not being set up to try and save whatever world they were talking about on that recording when I woke up. I'm really not up to that. Think someone'll get pissed if I sit that one out?
Maybe I could cheer you guys on from the sidelines.
[ fuck, he really needs a cigarette. maybe he'd be a little more optimistic about things after that.
but, maybe not. #winning ]

Re: un: gunny
lucidity's overrated most of the time, anyway. why stay alert to my beautiful current surroundings when i could drool aimlessly on the deck while people step over my lifeless corpse?
now that sounds fun.
no subject
let me guess, earther?
no subject
[ it's pretty easy to guess what an earther is by, you know, the word but he likes to make it hard on people. it's a thing. ]
but, if you're asking, wasn't born on earth.
i've spent a lot of time there but it's not the place i call home.
[ thank fuck because it was a cesspool of shittiness. ]
you make it sound like a bad thing though.
what's so bad about earth?
no subject
[Which is more leeway than she would have given a month ago. And even if she counts a few Earthers as friends now, a lifetime of war fueled propaganda doesn't go away overnight.]
they won the galactic lottery and paved most of it and dumped trash on the rest. most of them never work a day in their lives and spend their time chasing their next high. they take everything they have for granted. when mars has an ocean, we won't be filling it with chemicals and garbage.
no subject
apparently not. ]
someone has some strong feelings on earth, don't they? you'd think they killed your entire family and spit on their graves.
[ maybe they did. sounded like they were capable. ]
earth's shit, this i can agree with. if it's so bad, why don't people rise up and take it back? isn't that what happens? people get mad, throw a little tantrum and try and change things.
or is everyone okay with the status quo?
no subject
there's a reason mars fought for her independence. what i want is for earth to stop throwing its weight around like its past glory counts for anything.
then we can refocus on terraforming rather than waiting for them to do something stupid and short sighted like they always do.
no subject
[ their earths were different, kovacs knows, but their way of behaving is similar. he damn sure knows that nothing on earth is going to happen unless a meth deems it possible. they're going to sit on their thrones high above the clouds and sprinkle currency down below and watch everyone eat each other alive for their own amusement. ]
you can't just blow it up and start all over again? sounds like they'd do it to you if they had the chance.
[ earth had damn sure done that to a few planets in its history just to advance themselves. so, why not give them a taste of their own fucking medicine? ]
i'd offer to help but bomb making isn't really my specialty.

no subject
[ too bad, that would have been another one to cross off his bucket list. ]
so, you're not a big fan of picking up messes left by other people, earth and genocide?
what are you a big fan of, then? gotta be something interesting there.
no subject
where are you from, anyway?
no subject
[ maybe some day he'd talk more about harlan's world. maybe. not yet, though. ]
pretty sure that's everyone ultimate goal though.
can't see how anyone would want to stay here even if the view's nice.
[ for a little while, at least. then the stars just got boring because all they did was sit there and shine and sparkle. they were useless when you needed them to fucking do something. ]
what's gonna kill you on this station though?
besides another person, i guess. be a shitty thing if someone decides to go all serial killer while we're enjoying our forced vacations.
no subject
take those replicators. do you think they can pump out food indefinitely?
no subject
[ was cannibalishm really gonna have to be a thing? he did not want to know what the taste of human flesh was like. he didn't have many boundaries but the few that were there were non negotiable. ]
but you think we were brought here just to die slowly via starvation? seems like a waste.
[ if they were being prepped to save the world, letting them die because they didn't have any munchies seemed like a waste. ]
i think it's more likely that someone gets stir crazy and starts some shit before we have to start rationing.
no subject
i don't know why we were brought here, but considering whoever brought us here just dumped us, i'm not holding out hope for much help.
no subject
[ the things he could safely assume about this place was that he'd been brought here by a fairly well connected group and that they probably were keeping an eye on everyone somehow. you didn't just send a bunch of different people to a station in space and not peek in on your investment every once in awhile.
you'd want to know what your little mice were doing and maybe set a few traps in front of them for your entertainment. ]
this isn't where i would have chosen for a vacation. it's lacking in a lot of amenities.
[ which probably meant it wasn't going to be a vacation. at some point, something had to happen. one of those aforementioned traps would get dropped in front of them. ]
haven't decided what i think of the company yet.
