TEXT. (un: crow)

So.
Any theories yet?

Not just in regards to our being here, mind you, but for the disaster that seems to have befallen the previous crew here.
Personally, I'm starting to wonder if this station isn't a living thing in its own right.
But maybe that sounds a little crazy? Haha.

Please don't be shy to share your thoughts with me.
As a rookie detective, I'd be open to hearing whatever insights you might be able to provide.

I'm thinkin the old crew were a bunch of dumbasses who messed up and somehow kidnapped us here to clean up their mess.

[He had some other theories, but they didn't really make much sense, and he's certainly not about to open up his thoughts to Akechi.]

Or, someone betrayed the crew and murdered 'em and now we're here stuck trampling around in their fresh graves, and they're pissed at that someone

Would hate to be that guy

[He seriously thinks you're the cause of this. What's a Detective Prince without his Palace, right?

Thoughts of his own start to bubble upward. He wants to ask if Akechi can use his persona, since he knows that both Haru and him can't at the moment. But what's the point? He can't trust him to tell the truth anyway. Say yes and he'll know he's lying. Say no and he'll know he's probably hiding something. It's a tenuous relationship that tastes sour in his mouth.]

Does it really matter either way? If they met some really effed up ending and we found out what it was, it'd probably just cause everyone to panic.

Better to look forward than back.

Of all people you gotta know that better than anyone else.

[This...

He stares at his communicator for a moment, and he can't tell if this is the Akechi that manipulates people into getting what he needs, or if this is something more authentic. Ryuji doesn't like it. He's not wise enough to see the difference, even if it's staring back at his face in a doubly intended message. And it sucks having to second guess himself, and the traitor.]

What's your angle, here, man?

You blackmailed us into takin' you in, and then when we did, when we gave you the benefit of the doubt that maybe you weren't a giant asshole, you did what you did.

So yeah excuse me if I'm a little paranoid here

Or are you gonna tell me "bygones" and all that shit

It ain't over.

You DON'T get to say when it's over

Not when you're here on board with us

So don't give me that mopey ass bullshit about throwing you out of an airlock cause it ain't that GODDAMN simple

(from here on out, cw: suicide ideation)

Man, screw you. You're given a second chance and you're still gonna sit there and waste it? Don't even think about ending it, you asshole.

You may not care what the hell we're doing but at one point you were one of us. Even if it was fake as shit, Ren still offered you a chance. You coulda walked out of there.

We all have problems, Akechi. Your choices got you to where you are, and that's what makes us different. So if you're gonna get another go around of it, cut the bullshit and be the person you are, not one of the hundred different personalities you made for yourself.

Said my peace, man. Take it or leave it, I don't care.

[Painstakingly, he looks over this message- once, twice. He doesn't want to feel anything toward Akechi. He likes the comfort of being angry, of feeling cheated that there wasn't an ending that had him pay for the things that he had done. And he can't tell if it's pity, or just genuine sadness that he's starting to feel off of this, but it confuses him, and he wants to dispel it.

Betrayal's a funny thing, isn't it? How many times has Ryuji been betrayed in his life by people he ought to have been able to trust? His father. His coach. His track team. Akechi. It's like there's all this pent up anger and resentment, beginning with the cornerstone that began with a one (1) Ryuji Sakamoto as a kid, cowering under the fist of his own paternal role model.

He gets it, Akechi. He does.

But there are always going to be things in your life that you just find really, really hard to forgive. It's what keeps him from sending the following:

Idiot. You think we wouldn't have protected you?

We won. We got Shido's heart in the end. What did it matter?

And instead, he sighs, closes the communicator and decides to come back to this later when his head isn't filled with the buzzing swarm of bees that threaten to sting and bite, a wasp nest of savagery that cuts with each of his words.

Whatever, man. Life is life.]

Yeah, you're probably right.

I don't know you that well.
