( Clary can't sleep. That isn't new, but thanks to the steady application of an Endurance rune she doesn't quite look like the walking dead yet. In fact, her stele turning up has been a godsend. Nourishment to stop her having to eat the weird replicated food, Stealth so that she can wander the halls at all hours, and Soundless so that no one hears her scream if she finally gets a few hours sleep before the nightmares come. But runes can't really help her state of mind, and there's only so much she can do to stop herself going crazy.
Which is what drives her to the network in the middle of the night, thoughts going round in vicious circles. )
if you could wish for one thing in the whole wide world, what would it be?
( Grief isn't new, not to Clary. Each person that gets taken from her is another chip in her heart. But she's used to doing something. With Simon, she'd forced the others to bury him so that he could come back. With Jocelyn, she'd killed the demon who took her. With Jace, there should have been a wish.
If whoever brought her here had waited only two more minutes. She was so close. But now she's here. And he's dead. And in the dark of artificial night she can't put on her cheery smile anymore. )
What if you knew that it was the only one, in the history of all wishes, and that using it would mean it was gone and no matter who might need it down the line it's been used up, would you still take it?
( Jace will be long dead by the time she manages to get home. If she manages. But she spilt blood, Raziel owes her. There's still a chance. )

So you're talkin' a literal, magical, apparently can kill a hell of a lot of people, wish.
Yeah that ain't somethin' I'd wanna touch with a thousand foot pole.
[ Wait. ]
Unless it could stop the war, I guess. Without killin' millions or billions of people.

the possibility that one day demons will be able to rise up again, and that we'll need the angel's wish to stop. but it got twisted. valentine he summoned the angel so that he could ask for raziel to stop downworlders too. the vampires, werewolves, warlocks. people we lived with and were friends with. because he thought they were just as bad, that they were wrong. he was going to wipe them all out with one wish.
he won't be the last nazi shadowhunter, that's for sure.
( The angel had been just a breath away from Clary, she could have stopped it from happening at any point. But that's not what she wanted to wish for. )

But he's also met Alucard.
So. ]
Sounds like every other damn person in power with their finger hoverin' over the button, thinkin' they know better than anyone who should live or who should die.
I wish I could say it'd be different where I'm from, but.
It really ain't.
Even without uh - vampires and werewolves and - nazi shadowhunters? I ain't even sure what that means.
But people still think they can play with people's lives to get what they want.

or you have children. nobody's ever made me drink from the cup. we have powers i guess? to fight demons. protect people.
( At least explaining this madness is keeping her from crying. Good job. )
we're supposed to, anyway. but the older shadowhunters, they're stubborn and bigoted and honestly, sometimes i want to punch all of them but that would definitely get me ex-communicated.

Alright, wait, lemme see if I got this straight.
So your world - what's your world called, by the way? You on a version of Earth, or another planet?
Anyway, on your world, all the supernatural shit that people used to talk about exists. Angels, demons, vampires, all that jazz. Right? And some people have magic powers, after drinkin' from a cup that someone once drank angel blood from. Only you can also pass these down to your kids, so that they can get magic powers without drinkin' from the cup.
That about right?
Then you fight demons.
But there's a lot of you. Ex-communicated almost sounds like it's a church?

funnily enough, no one ever really talks about religion. if they do it isn't ever one specific kind. they seem to just agree with them all. my mom never took me to any church growing up. we did celebrate some jewish holidays for my best friend, but that was about it.
it's more like, a monarchy maybe? even though that doesn't sound right either. it's just a whole bunch of shadowhunter families, and some think their last name is better than someone else's last name. and they can be gross about purity, and behaving in the right way, and also hating downworlders because their ancestors did or something, i don't get it. but i wasn't raised in it, so that's maybe why.

Purity, though.
That's a subject matter I get all too well. Only it's more about who's human and who's not.
I think it's pretty much always gross, raised in it or not. Just people are used to it, and don't wanna see it, since it benefits them, right?

( SPACE!!!!!!! THE FINAL FRONTIER!!!!!!! )
and yeah. my friends, they're doing their best. i think it took them a long time to see that something was wrong in the first place. but now they get it, and they don't want to just let it happen.
it's good. maybe one day we'll be able to change it.

Maybe.
Hopefully we'll be able to get you back there, to see it through.

( A much better use of her insomnia. )

You might need to tell me who David Bowie is.
If he's there, I don't know 'im.
It ain't as red as Earther's tend to think it should be. It's kinda a soft orange, honestly. The sky's a bit pink.
Not on Mars, there ain't.
