hi

i'm hajime hinata. from japan, earth. probably the most significant thing about it is a really prominent high school called hope's peak, known worldwide for cultivating talent, so if you've heard of it, that's something we have in common at least.

that's really not why i'm trying out this posting thing, though. i mean, you've all been thinking about it, right? what we're supposed to do now? nobody's in charge here. there aren't any objectives to clear. there aren't even any rules.

do we just... live here? is that supposed to be enough? are we supposed to solve the mystery of what happened on this station before we can go home, like some kind of stupid murder-mystery dinner?

i guess what i'm trying to get at is... yeah, what i said before. what do we do now? i've had enough of weird processed food and pulling open the walls in search of voices to get nothing but wires and stuff i don't understand.

We are attempting to begin small by reaching the bridge. We hope that there is more information to be found there.

However, it does appear that perhaps having a checklist in mind of what we need to do to help ourselves in the meantime and have direction would not be a terrible decision.

[There's a pause, maybe a little longer than such a simple question should warrant.]

I... don't have any.

[It's a quietly defensive, reluctant admission, one he tries to play off with a bit of a sheepish-sounding laugh.]

It's funny, isn't it? Someone completely ordinary like me, being on a space station.

I doubt that is the truth.

Even if you are ordinary, I think that perhaps in a place like this it will be a source of comfort for many. Tell me what sort of things you are interested in.

[That's wrong! he wants to say, because it doesn't seem right to give this guy a false impression. He already knows he doesn't have talent in anything, not in sports, not in school, not even in luck. But that's still hard to say out loud, so after another too-long pause, he just sighs.]

I... don't see how someone like me can be a source of comfort for anyone. I want to be someone confident and reliable, but I don't have any talent in that. I don't think I could pretend to be that kind of person.

I guess I'm interested in... just going home. Doing whatever I can to make sure we can all get back where we belong.

People would appreciate normalcy, but if you have no confidence in that, then it is up to you to decide.

So no hobbies, then.

[Well, he would appreciate normalcy. Is it true other people might, as well...? It's something to think about.

A little defensively, though, he protests,]

I have hobbies! They're just not stuff that would help us get off this space station. I don't think watching TV and playing video games counts as "needed skills."

[He sighs heavily, sounding more tired.]

Then perhaps learn a skill that will help.

Or don't, and simply stay out of the way.

I want to learn. I just... don't know how I can. If I had a talent, I could do something, but...

[He sighs, drags a hand through his hair.]

...I'll do whatever I can.

Talent is earned through hard work. It is not so simple as being born with it.

[says the half-vampire. anyway.]

I have been raised by a doctor and a scientist. I intend to refocus myself as a surgeon and doctor here. If you wish to learn first aid and the like, I can show you. Can you do that?

[No, that's definitely wrong. But he isn't going to argue that point for once, because instead,]

Yes! [He's almost painfully earnest, the answer a little too quick and eager. It's nothing he ever pictured himself doing, but it's something. Something that can help, even indirectly, in getting them all home where they belong.] Whatever you're willing to teach me, I'll learn.

Give me time to work on a proper location for a clinic. Then, you may come and I will begin to teach you some of what I know.
