[The video comes on to show a small group of people. Alex is in front, obviously doing the filming, but behind him are two women - Naomi Nagata and Bobbie Draper - and one man - Amos Burton. You may have met some of them. A little behind them stands Prax Meng, who is looking very awkward, and Joe Miller, who is visibly rolling his eyes.]
Hey there cowboys and cowgirls. [ Alex’s characteristic texan drawl is easy and smooth, and despite the fact that there’s currently no gravity, he doesn’t sound worried.] Hope ya’ll had your magboots on.
Looks like somethin’ in the station’s centrifugal system is jammed up. That’ll be why ya’ll found your breakfast start floatin’ this mornin’. Ya ain’t gonna die, so no panickin’, but we’re gonna need all hands on deck to sort this one out. Now me and my crew here have a lot of experience with space-walk maintenance, but this is a big station. Ain’t no way we can do this by ourselves. But we wanna make sure anyone that’s venturin’ outside isn’t gonna get themselves hurt.
[He raises a hand.] Now my name’s Alex, and these here are Naomi, Bobbie and Amos. [He points to each of them in turn.] We can check over your gear and make sure it ain’t gonna start leakin’ oh-two on ya while you’re out there. We’ll be headin’ out ourselves, but at least one of us’ll be by an airlock at all times.
If anyone is havin’ problems with the weightless side of things - you just give one of us a shout and we’ll try t’ get you set up. Basic rules are - you’re gonna keep goin’ in any direction you are propelled in. Easiest thing is to just use your magboots to get around, but if you’ve gone and gotten yourself caught without ‘em, make sure you stay within arm’s reach of a wall or bolted-down-object at all times, else you’re gonna find yourself floatin’ uselessly with no way of gettin’ t’ anything.
[He pauses, looking back at the group.]
That about it? [ He waits a couple seconds, but no one adds anything, so he looks back in the camera. ]
Alright. Let’s get this show on the road.
[ The feed winks out. ]
[[OOC: Each of the Roci crew will have top levels in the event post to help people with their suits, so feel free to hit them up there! I will also link them here for easy access. Naomi || Bobbie || Amos || Alex ]]

But ain't a worry, we can get you suited up and give you a run down of how to maneouver out there. You'll want a buddy t' go with you, though, if you ain't been out. It can get real disorientin' real fast.
no subject
It would be appreciated. [ let it not be said that he can't recognize when he is out of his depth. ] I would not wish to be an inconvenience.
no subject
Bein' willin' to help already means a lot.
no subject
Is this something we can expect to happen regularly?
no subject
The first I'm afraid to say you're probably gonna have to live with. The second, who knows. Till we get to the Ops deck, or at least engineerin', there no way to hell what state this rust bucket is in. I'd say hope for the best, but - think it might be wiser to just be ready for when shit gets worse.
no subject
Encouraging. [ ㅡor not remotely, really.
He exhales, rubs at the bridge of his nose. Thinks of what he'd told Revan once about the vastness of space being comforting without being overwhelming, and how he may well be eating those words soon. ]
Is there anything in particular that I'll need to know?
no subject
Your suit's what's gonna be keepin' you alive, so you triple check it before you even step out the airlock, and make sure you know exactly how much O2 you got for your trip, and how much time you need to get back to the airlock.
Hypoxia ain't a fun time for anyone.

I'm aware. The only uglier death is probably being blasted into realspace without any protection at all.
[ He thinks of his mother, then. Winces and changes the subject back to something safer. ]
Do you ever get used to it? [ more a rhetorical statement than a question, though Alex is clearly the expert on the subject and it's better attempting small talk than to dig into more awkward topics. ]
no subject
Realspace?
[ Because he honestly had no idea what Kylo meant. But at the question, he hummed something that sounded like an affirmative. ]
Yeah, we're a pretty adaptive species - live long enough with somethin' and it becomes normal, same as everythin' else. You'll get used to it. Just don't get cocky with it, or you start makin' mistakes because you aren't checking things like you should.

[ What?? ]
... Fast... space? [ Wait a second, he'll get there. ]
You mean somethin' like an FTL drive? [ There we go. ]
no subject
Yes.
Hyperspace travel is the backbone of the galactic community and has been for millenia. [ Then, adds: ] During my time.
no subject
That's...
[ He whistles, lowly, and then the nerd kicks in: ]
So what exactly are we talkin' about here? Are you bendin' spacetime, somehow, or slippin' into a parallel dimension? What's the relative speed on it? Like - how long does it take to travel a lightyear?
[ Sorry, Kylo... ]
no subject
He rubs at his lower lip: ] Hyperdrives exploit wrinkles in the fabric of realspace, enabling ships to travel distances while preserving their mass and energy profile.
no subject
Is it instantaneous or does it just really reduce the amount of time between destinations?
[ Alex, you're getting off track, here. ]
Uh - not that it makes a hell of a lot of difference, I guess, if we ain't got it here. Sounds like the tech on this station ain't anywhere close to what you've got back home.
no subject
To my knowledge none of the sentient races have mastered teleportation. [ and Luke's projection trick absolutely doesn't count. ]
Not for lack of trying.
There's little point in dwelling on it. I'm not there right now and am unlikely to be returning any time soon.
no subject
None of the sentient races? You mean aliens, right?
[ He let out a breath at the last, and raised a finger. ]
We'll get you home. Somehow. We all got here, so there's gotta be a way to get back. You just gotta keep your chin up.
no subject
It's a vast galaxy and mankind hardly has the market cornered on ingenuity.
[ which isn't to say they aren't strong contenders, mind. Corellia and Kuat remain industrial titans even decades after the fall of the Empire. ]
The reassurance is unnecessary.
no subject
To the second part, he says: ]
Necessary or not, it's still offered. But that because you're confident, or because you don't have much hope in it at all?
no subject
I would like to think the Force has a greater plan in store than my dying here.
[ that and he is absolutely prepared to tear through every door he finds, regardless of the words had about that sort of thing, if necessary. ]
no subject
The Force?
no subject
The energy field that surrounds and binds all living things to each other.
no subject
It doesn't quite sound like God, though.
no subject
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that he'd be showing off given his initial network. Most are generally not so blatant about what they can do.
And that's because it isn't.
