I've been informed that introducing oneself in this manner is advisable to those who have recently found themselves on board.

My name is Connor. I am a CyberLife RK800 model android. [It was important to introduce himself this way. CyberLife androids, though very realistic, weren't ever supposed to be deceptive about their true natures. His carefully measured words and tone and even the way he moved, his expressions, all reinforced his claim. And, if there were any other doubts that he might not be an android, he had a small, circular LED on the side of his temple that flickered blue from time to time as he spoke.]

I've been granted access to all messages transmitted publicly over the inter-station network. There have been some very odd occurrences, not to mention our sudden arrival here, the locked areas of the station, and it's absent crew. I was hoping to discuss the theories that you all have regarding our presence here, especially if you have any evidence to support it.

I also wish to offer my assistance to anyone who is endeavoring to find out more about the station or a way for us to return to where we were brought here from.

The human desire for an organic appearance among their AI is also familiar—for certain functions, at least. The android is well-mannered enough and yet he lacks the emotional expression and informality of the Universal Companion. Then again, 9S has demonstrated that humans from other universes could be rather more liberal in which AI they choose to model on themselves.]

What is the primary function of the RK800 product line?

Messed up? How so? Androids were made to assist humans. Performing menial tasks and hard labor are two of the most common uses.

I'm unaware what their models were designed for. Perhaps you should ask them? As for showering, I'm not surprised. Androids don't require showering or bathing.

I also can't speak to their individual programming. Again, if you're curious, I suggest asking it directly.

There are many factors that lower the possibility. The biggest being that wormholes have never been shown to... abduct people. Taking into consider our various times and places of origin and that we have all been arriving at varying times makes it highly unlikely.

Given the size of the galaxy, it is illogical to rule out the possibility of alien life forms. I would not consider magic or the supernatural to exist either. I'm unsure what you mean by superheroes, the only reference I have to superheroes is in popular culture.

Possibly. My programming makes the distinction, specifically between living beings and androids. It would only matter if I was required to make a decisions to act, for example, in an emergency situation. In which case I am required to place the lives of humans above androids, including myself.

So, the part of the universe I was in doesn't follow normal space/time laws. You can travel in a direction and end up back before you started because things are so wonky. It's difficult -- but possible! -- to know where you're going, and I was with some people who were uniquely qualified to figure that out.

Miserably low probabilities of discovering a way to return home and a ridiculously long time frame when they may or may not achieve their goal wasn't going to help anyone.]

Unless we're being kept here. It can't be ruled out. And... there are those who have noted that it seems like items that are needed have a tendency to appear. I've also been made aware of items from home also sometimes show up.

[His LED continued to flicker yellow as he spoke. This place seemed like an impossible puzzle. Any theories he was able to come up with had as much evidence against them as for them.]

I'm not sure where to start. [He thinks for a moment, trying to think of all the reactions he'd received so far to various things he'd told people.]

Androids... The first android to successfully pass the Turing test was created in 2022 in Detroit, by a company called CyberLife. CyberLife is still the sole manufacturer of all androids, which are available for purchase for both personal and commercial use. Most commonly they are used for menial labor.

[At this point, genuinely enjoying completing his missions or being programmed to do so was one and the same. It was impossible to separate the two.]

Oh. [He actually looked a little bit touched, giving her a soft smile. Surprised, but touched. It was very rare for any android to receive praise or have gratitude directed at them. It felt... nice.]

[He tilted his head thoughtfully.] No? I don't think so and there's definitely no need to apologize.

I'm a prototype, but I was designed to assist detectives with crime scene investigation, the apprehension of suspects, hostage negotiation situations and interrogations.

[He pauses for just a second too long, debating on whether to continue.] Especially with crimes involving androids.

[Not wanting to appear too eager to change the subject, Connor tried to move the conversation along naturally.]

[It felt like a dead end, though his expression remained mostly the same, not showing the discouragement he felt.]

Is it safe to assume that if you knew a way to travel out of this universe and back to your own, you would have already left?

Have you seen anything on board or in the recordings of the previous crew that hint at traveling between universes? Does the technology on board seem capable of that sort of thing?

But they are not living beings. They may look human and have the ability to replicate human behavior, but they are not alive. They are just machines.

[Did he really still believe this? ... He wasn't going to think about that too much right now. He didn't want to be deviant, that meant that he was defective... broken, and a part of him didn't want to be deactivated. At the moment, it was much easier to deny any sort of deviant behavior and continue to repeat his programmed responses.]

[Really, he knew more, but he wasn't about to talk about Yuki to some strange android who was trying to say that he had less of a priority to live because they are metal and plastic rather than meat and bone.]

Besides which, there are organic lifeforms here that are not human who pass for it, and some who don't. They don't deserve any less respect.

I am a machine. [Maybe if he kept saying it, it would become true again.] Having possessions is... a very strange concept. [He didn't even belong to himself, how could other things belong to him?]

Benevolence? [He frowns slightly for a moment as he thinks about that.] I am unsure what benevolence has to do with invention. [According to the definition of invention that Connor had been given, invention was simply somebody seeing a need and working to satisfy it. Kamski would likely disagree with why he'd invented AI and androids, but that was another story.]

It cannot bother me. I am a machine, made for a purpose. I have no opinion one way or another.

I know you're trying to gauge if I can get you all out of here, but the way you phrased that sounds like you're asking about my morals. Do I leave the station if it means abandoning everyone else? Or do I go?

And man, I don't have much of a clue about what the previous crew were doing. All I know is that they were trying to test something. Who knows what?

They can not think or feel. They are simply following a program to make it appear as though they are.

[It didn't help that during this entire debate, Connor's tone had remained the same helpful, pleasant one that it had been in his initial greeting. He could also continue repeating the same thing over and over again without frustration, each time gently correcting this stranger.]

You are, however, correct about the other organic lifeforms. My programming previously had no way of quantifying them, therefore, they are all treated as a human would be.

I simply want to verify that my assumption is correct - if there was something you could do, some knowledge you had, or some technology, you would have already used it, correct? So I can assume that there is nothing you have found so far that might help us return to our homes.
