Hi. My name is Captain Steve Rogers. I wanted to introduce myself to everyone. Where I come from, protecting people was very important to me. It still is. This ship is dangerous and I think we're getting side-tracked from an important conversation here.
I don't think we should worry too much about that roster file we were sent, but it's not a bad idea to have some sort of security team that can respond to a crisis and keep track of everything we have figured out about this place so far. I'd like to help with any effort like that, but it might be best if we wait before assigning rank to anyone. Fighting over who's the boss or throwing baseless orders around isn't going to help anyone or keep them safe. Our priorities should be safety and finding a way to leave.
It's been suggested to me that some of the things that have been happening to us could be some sort of security response from the ship. Does anyone with a better understanding of computers want to weigh in on that? Can anyone try to access those systems? There's still a lot of the station that we can't access and I know some of us have been trying to work on that.
Finally, if there's anything else I can help with, please reach out to me.
[ And a later text that follows: ]
I think people have misunderstood what I want to do. I don't want anyone to have power over the rest of us. This would be for dealing with outside threats and organizing information that would be available to everyone. Anyone who wanted to help would be welcome.

[ It's too close to what was done to Bucky and too many others. Steve had volunteered to be experimented on and trained. That's an important distinction. ]

[ It does give him an out to refuse training, which is probably for the best. Even without using his powers, he is quite skilled in hand-to-hand combat. Another card he doesn't want to play just yet. ]
An emergency response team could also coordinate responses to things other than some kind of hostile invasion. For example, if some kind of sickness breaks out, or there's a hull breach, or a power failure. A great deal can go wrong in a facility like this.

I'm stronger than most humans, myself, but so far it hasn't been much of a help in getting through any of the sealed doors.

Stronger than most humans? Are you counting yourself among them or are you something else?
[ As for skills... ]
I work in a steel mill back home. I haven't been able to get through the doors, either. Either they're made up of something more than just metal, or the tools I have are not up to the par.

[ Because in his mind, the alternative is something like the Chitauri, cold and alien. As far as he's concerned, anyone with a metaphorical heart is human enough, whether they're green or from space or have fantastical powers. Steve sees all of them as equals. ]
Those doors are definitely something, though, and we should probably figure out a containment plan before we keep trying to bust through them in case there's something dangerous on the other side or in case there's no air.

I don't think something like that would alter your humanity, no. Although perhaps the humanity of those who conducted the experiments.
[ The undertow of terrible memories tugs at his ankles. He keeps moving forward. ]
Yes, Amos said the same thing when we encountered one together. There has to be some emergency system in case of a hull breach. If I could just find some kind of manual, I could piece it together.
[ This is what frustrates him the most. Much of his knowledge is self-taught. He can get very far with some schematics and a set of hand tools. But he has no information to go on. ]

[ Because he doesn't miss that pause and he isn't unaware of the number of people submitted to things like that who hadn't, but he'd rather people save their empathy or anger for the people who deserve it. ]
It was for the war effort.
[ Henryk, Steve suspects, understands him without as much explanation as most of the other people here tend to require. It's a relief to be able to express so much with fewer words. ]
I'll see about finding a manual, though. I know a few people are trying to get into the system, but there has to be a physical book somewhere. It would be foolish to only have the information on the computer.

I'll look for a manual as well, though I don't have much hope. There's what's sensible, and then there's what these people did. From what I can tell the two did not intersect very often.
I'll contact you again if I find anything useful.
