can someone tell me what kind of animal this is?



i've never seen anything like it before and i don't think it likes me very much but it lives here now?? not in my part of the quarters though

something completely different
i've been trying to get the bar into working shape and i used to work as a bartender back home, which i liked
if i can be more useful doing something else, let me know, but if not
would anyone mind if i try to keep the bar in shape and run it? not for money, just for something to do
some of the bottles there have stuff that's still good so we might as well

[ in a few moments, miller is shuffling next door and slumping onto an empty stool chosen completely at random. he drops his elbow on the bar and leans his face into his hand as he takes her in, realizing he's never seen her before now. young, pretty, blonde. they really shouldn't hang out but if she's gatekeeping the liquor she'll have to deal with him either way. ]

Surprise me. [ it's dry, his voice raspy like he just woke up not too long ago. all this garbage seems to taste basically the same, so he's not about to be picky. ]

( kat doesn't really recognise them, but she can put two and two together. and she's not gatekeeping the liquor, she's just keeping busy. there's a difference. really. hopefully. she thinks there is, at any rate. )

I can do that.

( keeping busy also means she has a decent idea by now of what's there and what isn't, which means she has a decent idea of what to make him. which is something akin to an old-fashioned in taste, at least, if not in actual composition. )

[ he accepts her offering with an uncertain little smile, sniffing the drink before bringing the glass to his lips. whatever it is, he can already tell it'll go down smoother than whatever that rocket fuel alex and he drank was. miller takes a gulp of it before setting the glass between his hands on the bartop. ]

( that gets him a grin, quick but pleased. ) I know. Whoever was here before us, they had some decent alcohol, at least. ( not all of it by any stretch of the imagination, but some. )

I guess they couldn't have been total shitbags then. This almost tastes like a real drink.

[ his smile is much rougher than hers, haggard. but it's genuine. ]

I don't know about that. Bad people have good drinks, too.

( but the argument is light. happy to have found some common ground. ) I'm glad you like it, though.

[ he points at her like he's never thought of that before in his life and it's a brilliant observation. ]

[ he takes another long drink and sucks excess bourbon off his teeth noisily. he does like it, that's his show of appreciation. ]

( she just nods and gives him a half-smile, well used to the weird drinking habits of old men (sorry not sorry miller). )
